Welcome to Thirley Cotes Farm

A collection of Grade II listed Georgian self-catering holiday lets on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and Coast between the seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby. Surrounded by 21 acres of manicured grounds, brimming with wildlife and woodland and sleeping 2 - 42 guests across 8 traditional yet contemporary country-coastal cottages. Complete with private hot tub and enclosed stone garden.
We take a modern approach to creating our portfolio of properties, but Thirley Cotes Farm dates back hundreds of years and is home to a rich tapestry of history. The first direct reference to a settlement on the estate can be found in the Domesday Book (compiled in 1068 as an index of taxable properties held under William I) and we have worked hard to bring all of our cottages back to life, using traditional building materials and showcasing stunning original features throughout, such as the trusses and Roman numerals inscribed on each. Which are still visible in the order of initial construction.
Set between Broxa and Harwood Dale Forest, there are endless tracks and trails to explore from the doorstep (on foot or two wheels) and we are proud to say that all of cottages are 5* rated. While Holly is crowned our 5* Platinum Property.
North Yorkshire lays claim to one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country. Home to picturesque villages clinging to the cliffs; Staithes, Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay, Filey and Ravenscar among them and all in the care of the North York Moors National Park.
It goes without saying that the surrounding scenery is a walker’s paradise. Made up of wild moorlands and golden stretches of sand and you’re ideally positioned to explore nearby Scarborough, Whitby (perfect for guests looking to sample the famous fish and chips) and villages such as Hackness, Thornton le Dale, Pickering, Hutton le Hole and Grosmont (also known as Heartbeat Country).
Thirley Cotes Farm is the ideal base for an adventure-fuelled holiday and to ensure our guests don’t waste a second, we've compiled a handy in-cottage guide to the best walking, cycling, running, climbing and exploring across the region and can point you in the direction of organised hikes and nature tours.
Offering an added touch of indulgence, we also prepare personalised welcome packs full of local produce and don't worry about those muddy paws: all of our cottages are pet friendly. As an owner of an electric vehicle or hybrid, you want the peace of mind that you can charge your car easily and safely when away. With that in mind, we offer 2 free plug-in points, helping to ensure your stay is as eco-friendly as possible and work hard to protect our wild spaces and residents, which include moles, badgers, sheep and a wealth of flora and fauna. We're also home to a family of Barn Owls - they're a hoot.
