Located in the small Yorkshire hamlet of Harwood Dale, Thirley Cotes Farm is surrounded by 21 acres of countryside and woodland and ideal for exploring the North York Moors and Coast, as we are a short drive from the seaside towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Staithes, as well as fishing village Robin Hood’s Bay.
While we adopt a modern approach when restoring our collection of cottages, the history of Thirley Cotes dates back hundreds of years and we’re home to a rich tapestry of antiquity.
We work hard to bring each home back to life by using traditional building materials and techniques, showcasing original features throughout (such as the trusses and Roman numerals inscribed on each, which are still visible in order of initial construction).
Today, Thirley Cotes Farm is home to a collection of 8 carefully restored self-catering holiday lets sleeping 2 – 42 guests.
Protecting our natural environment
There’s plenty of parking available for all of our properties, as well as two electric car charging points and designated recycling stations.
We have always placed an emphasis on making positive changes where possible with respect to energy and waste and leave areas of Thirley Cotes Farm ‘rough and wild’ to provide food and shelter for local wildlife.
We also install nest boxes across the estate and use low level lighting to find a balance between reducing pollution and ensuring that guests feel safe at night.
Our office is based within the grounds of Thirley Cotes Farm, so staff are on hand to welcome you and generally point you in the right direction. Whether you want advice on nearby adventures or tips on where to find the best restaurants – just ask. We’re here to help you make the most out of your stay.
Thirley Cotes Farm is perfect for nature lovers and home to lots of flora and fauna year round, as well as a growing family of barn owls. We’ve also established a small fenced wildlife pond, which welcomes a variety of birds and other residents, such as herons and starlings and as the winter months draw to a close, the neighbouring grounds can be found littered with lambs.
There’s a shared children’s play area and games room on-site, as well as an adjoining amenity field. Or you can simply sit back and take it all in from the comfort of your holiday cottage’s enclosed, Yorkshire stone garden, complete with hot tub, teak furniture and BBQ. Our private hot tubs are for exclusive use and subject to an optional heating and caretaking charge of £75 – £100.
