Falling Foss Waterfall

A stunning natural waterfall hidden just to the south of Whitby, Falling Foss is a popular yet relatively secluded spot nestled in the heart of the surrounding North Yorkshire Moors and a rather lovely place to while away a morning or afternoon.
Falling Foss can be accessed via woodland on either side of the villages of Littlebeck and Maybeck and if travelling by car, it’ll take you around 20 minutes to reach from Thirley Cotes Farm (simply follow the B1416 and signs for parking at Sneaton Forest).
Falling Foss Waterfall
30-foot high and beautiful after heavy rain (be careful as the ground can be slippery) there are many mapped tracks and trails across the area. Most take visitors to Falling Foss, where you can immerse yourself in the splendour of the natural environment and set aside some well-deserved time out.
Midge Hall and Falling Foss Tea Garden
Midge Hall was originally a gamekeeper’s cottage, believed to date back to the 1780’s and is now home to a quaint tearoom. Between the 1960s and 2008 the property was abandoned, but new owners have brought it back to life and provide an additionally wonderful reason to plan a trip.
The Falling Foss Hermit
Another local point of interest to explore is The Hermitage, which is just a short walk from the falls. Here a cave has been carved out of a huge bolder and dates as far back as the 18th century. This was once the secluded home of a hermit, who foraged in the nearby woodlands.
