January 2025 on The North Yorkshire Moors & Coast
The North Yorkshire Moors & Coast are wonderful at any time of the year, however there is something extra special about them in January.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the quieter crowds make for the perfect excuse to explore. Grab a coat, put on your walking boots and let’s dive into a few of our top picks of activities in The North Yorkshire Moors & Coast this January.
Stargazing at Dalby Forest
Dalby Forest is a Haven for nature lovers all year round, but did you know that it’s also one of the best spots in the UK for stargazing? The clear crisp January nights are ideal, as with little light pollution, you’ll be able to see the Milky Way, constellations and maybe even the occasional shooting star.
With plenty of guided tours available, book your session here
Dalby Forest is located only a 25 minute drive from Thirley Cotes Farm making it a perfect activity for our guests this January.
Ryedale Folk Museum
Step back in time at The Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-Le-Hole. This award winning museum brings history to life with its collection of historic buildings and exhibits. January is the perfect time to explore the museum without the summer crowds, and you’ll get to experience the fascinating history of rural North Yorkshire.
Hutton-Le-Hole itself is also a beautiful place to visit. Complete with a pub, tea room and chocolate shop, there are plenty of options for some refreshments after your trip to the museum.
Little Beck and Falling Foss
If you’re after a beautiful winter walk, look no further than Little Beck Wood and The Falling Foss waterfall. Located just a short drive from Whitby, this woodland walk is a hidden gem, especially when the trees are dusted with snow and the waterfall is framed by the winter scenery. The sound of the water cascading over the rocks makes this a peaceful and serene spot. In January, crowds are few and far between so you may well get the place to yourself! The perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby Walk
Want to get out for a day of exploring followed by Fish&Chips? The Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby coastal walk is a must. It’s slightly challenging walk, but the views are worth every step. The walk takes you along the rugged cliffs with the sea crashing below. January makes this the perfect time of year for this walk as you’ll be rewarded with clear skies, dramatic coastal views and the quiet, unspoiled beauty of The North Yorkshire Coast.
Start the walk early and end with Fish & Chips in Whitby. There is a regular bus that runs between the two places for you to be able to get back to your car at the end of the day.
